This African mask from the Baule people of The Ivory Coast is hand-carved of lenke wood which is prized for its hardness. The moon mask is an entertainment mask which is danced in the Mblo, a celebration of dance and theatrics paying tribute to an honored community member. This moon mask is deep rich blue and features a bird atop its head to bring happiness.
