African Babanki Elephant Mask 17

Item # BAB081220MB

This African Mask from the Babanki people of Cameroon measures 41 inches tall, 13 inches wide. The mask is hand-carved of wood, then covered with sheets of bronze with hand hammered designs. The elephant is a royal animal in Babanki tradition and these masks may be worn only by privileged members of the community on special occasions such as dances, festivals, and funerals. The movements of dancers wearing the elephant mask are slow and majestic, imitating the elephant itself and befitting his dignity. The elephant mask is second in prestige only to the human mask. - FREE US SHIPPING
