African art and masks. This African mask from the Fang people of Gabon is 12.5 inches tall, and 7.75 inches wide. It is hand-carved of wood and, typical of Fang Prosperity masks, features coins which are intended to bring money to its owner. The rigidly observed stylistic elements of Fang masks make them some of the most easily recognizable of all African art.
