African Statues - Bakota Reliquary Guardian

African art and masks from the Bakota. Crafted of hammered copper and Brass in the country of Gabon, reliquary guardians guarded the boxes with the ancestral bones. Photos at left show the 2 faces of this guardian. Guardians with 2 faces are said to have twice the protection power of guardian with one face since they can keep an eye in both directions. This Reliquary Guardian stands 30 inches tall.
